KCCA FC’s combative midfielder Joel Sserunjogi has set his sights on improving his attacking output as the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League (UPL) campaign gains momentum.
The energetic midfielder, known for his work rate and tactical intelligence, is now challenging himself to be more decisive in the final third both in scoring and creating goals as part of his contribution to the club’s title ambitions.
A mainstay in the KCCA lineup since joining two years ago, Sserunjogi’s consistency has earned him recognition, but the midfielder believes it’s time to take his game a notch higher.
Having scored only once in his KCCA career so far, Sserunjogi admits he wants to evolve from a purely defensive role into a more complete midfielder.
“I am challenging myself to be more involved in the final third this season,” Sserunjogi said. “The role of a modern defensive midfielder is changing, and if I am to achieve my personal goals, I need to score and assist more often.” He said in an interview with the KCCA FC media.
He added that he wants to become a vital connection between defense and attack, emphasizing his growing confidence and hunger for improvement.
Sserunjogi impressed for Uganda Cranes during the CHAN 2024 tournament, even netting a stunning goal against Niger a moment he describes as a major confidence boost.
“The CHAN experience was incredible and a huge motivator, but what keeps me in the national team setup is performing consistently for KCCA,” he noted. “Every time I play for the club, I represent my country, my club, my family, and myself.”
While determined to improve his statistics, Sserunjogi insists that team success comes first, with his main goal being to help KCCA FC reclaim domestic glory.
“Above all my personal objectives — goals, assists, and attacking involvement — my greatest desire is to win silverware with KCCA. This is a club of champions, and we owe it to our fans to deliver trophies.”
Still unbeaten after collecting five points from their opening three matches, KCCA FC return to league action on Thursday, October 23, 2025, when they face Express FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, under the floodlights at 8 PM.
