Kelechi Iheanacho struck from the spot in the first half before Celtic FC staged a comeback to defeat Tawanda Maswanhise and Motherwell 3-2 in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
The 29-year-old veteran marksman sent Motherwell goalkeeper Calum Ward the wrong way close to the half hour mark but the job was far from done for The Bhoys.
The visitors struck back with force through Australia international forward Apostolos Stamatelopoulos, his first goal arriving before halftime from an excellent cross by Zimbabwe international Tawanda Maswanhise to leave the teams level. Stametelopoulos struck again before the hour mark to leave the hosts in a 1-2 hole for the final half hour.
But The Hoops responded well and once Benjamin Nygren equalized in the 69th minute, Motherwell were on the defensive as the hosts laid siege. Daizen Maeda’s stoppage time winner secured all three points for Celtic, who remain in second place on seventeen points, two back of leaders Hearts.
Iheanacho now has three goals and an assist in six matches since joining on a free transfer following his time with Spanish club Sevilla. Maswanhise, who will be with Zimbabwe during the FIFA window as they conclude their failed bid at qualification for the 2026 World Cup, has seven goals and an assist in thirteen matches across all competitions.
