Kelechi Iheanacho yet to be registered by Sevilla ahead of new season

Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho’s future at Sevilla remains uncertain as he is yet to be registered for the new La Liga season. Sevilla remain open to let Iheanacho go with Turkish clubs Besiktas and Samsunspor reportedly interested in the striker.

Sources close to the club indicate that Sevilla is actively seeking a transfer for the 28-year-old and has set an asking price of at least €3 million. Iheanacho enjoyed playing time in pre-season remains one of the players most likely to leave Sevilla this summer.

Iheanacho’s time at Sevilla has been underwhelming since his arrival as a free agent last summer. After failing to consistently impress in the first half of the season, where he scored twice against lower league opposition in the Copa del Rey but failed to find the net in nine league appearances, he was loaned to English Championship side Middlesbrough in January.

His loan spell saw him register one goal and two assists in 15 league outings, a performance that did not solidify his place in the plans of Sevilla’s new coach Matías Almeyda.

Turkish media have now reported that Besiktas and Samsunspor are interested in the forward, who joined Sevilla last season as a free agent and has a contract until 2027.

Mexican club Pumas has also expressed interest in Iheanacho as reported last week. However, for a deal to materialize, Pumas would first need to free up a place in their squad to accomodate a foreign player signing.
