WAFA graduate Kennedy Boateng named MOTM in Dinamo București victory

Ghana-born Togo international Kennedy Boateng was a monster on both ends of the pitch for Romanian title contenders Dinamo Bucuresti on Wednesday, scoring two his first two goals of the campaign in a 3-2 victory at Farul Constanta.

In a dramatic victory for the visitors at the Central Stadium at the Gheorghe Hagi Academy, Boateng equalized just before halftime and then leveled the match again shortly after hosts Farul took the lead for a second time.

The back-and-forth match would eventually bring despair to Romanian legend Hagi, who is the majority owner of Farul Constanta. Substitute Alexandru Pop collected a shot attempt from teammate Daniel Armstrong and fired in an 89th minute winner to move Dinamo level with rivals Rapid București on 48 points.

It was a fitting finish to a fierce clash and it was the Togolese international who made the difference with his Man of the Match performance. Boateng won all three of his aerial duels and produced eight clearances along with three interceptions on the defensive end. He is firmly established as one of the best defenders in Romania’s SuperLiga at this point.

The Tamale native began his career at Ghana’s famed West African Football Academy (WAFA), where he impressed during his first season as a professional before moving to Europe. After six seasons in Austria and a couple in Portugal, he has found his highest level since joining Dinamo ahead of the 2024-25 season as a free agent.

Having a Togolese mother opened up the potential for a call to the Togo national team after failing to gain the notice of Ghana’s Black Stars. Boateng elected to join Les Éperviers in 2022 and has since become a regular sight in the Togo setup with fourteen appearances.
