Kenya midfielder Anthony Akumu has sealed a transfer move to Lebanese Premier League outfit Nejmeh SC ahead of the new season.
In a statement, the club confirmed: “The wait is over… And it’s time for medical deals. From the South African powerful league stadiums, to the Japan League stadiums, one of the most important leagues in the Asian continent.
“Introducing the Kenyan national team’s player, the owner of 32 international matches including the on-going 2026 World Cup qualifiers, 44 matches in African Club Championships, including 33 matches in the African Champions League.”
The statement concluded: “Today is a new chapter starts with star sports club. Let’s welcome our new midfielder, our player Teddy Akumu.”
Okumu’s new club is based in Manara, a neighbourhood in Ras Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon, and was established in Beirut in 1945, and received its license in 1947.
Nejmeh have won nine Lebanese Premier League titles, eight Lebanese FA Cups, 12 Lebanese Elite Cups, and seven Lebanese Super Cups. In Asia, Nejmeh were runners-up in the 2005 AFC Cup, where they lost to Al-Faisaly of Jordan.
Akumu kicked off his professional career at Kenyan record champions Gor Mahia before moving to Sudan’s Al Khartoum, then made his mark at Zambia’s ZESCO United, South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, Japan’s Sagan Tosu, and, most recently, Kheybar Khorramabad in Iran.
