Kenya national team striker Moses Shumah stole the show with a hat-trick in a high intensity game between defending champions Power Dynamos and Ndola giants ZESCO United in a game pitted – ‘The Electric Derby’.
In a week 23 of the MTN Zambian Premier League at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Ndola, ZESCO were first to ask questions of Willard Mwanza in the second minute as wing wizard Abraham Siankombo forced Mwanza into a fine save from a dead ball situation.

Power didn’t take long to counter the offensive ZESCO intent as Malawian international Chifundo Mphasi danced his way past the defence and fired in a dangerous cross that went begging as Kenyan talisman Moses Shumah couldn’t capitalize on, missing from close range.
Fast forward into the 14th minute, Chifundo Mphasi nearly caught ZESCO goalkeeper Philip Sakauta off guard with a long-range effort, but Sakauta scrambled into recovery to push the effort out for a Power Dynamos corner kick.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man, enter Moses Shumah – the Kenyan vintage talisman found the back of the net with a lethal strike that had Philip Sakauta desperately struggling to give Power the lead.
The match kept fans on their toes with end-to-end action but the moment that mattered most was the 33rd minute as opposition attacking reference point Amine Hiver equalised for the home side via a header that beat Zambia National team goal minder Willard Mwanza to see ZESCO crawl back level with Power.
With seven minutes before the halftime mark, the dangerous ZESCO talisman completed the comeback beating Willard to flip the match into ZESCO United’s advantage.
The match went into the break with the defending Champions trailing. A few minutes after the resumption of the second stanza (48th minute), Coach Mutapa made three substitutions withdrawing Fredrick Mulambia, Owen Tembo, and Prince Mumba for Salulani Phiri, Linos Makwaza Jr, and Ishmael Eddie Ankobo.
The Power tactical changes brought in renewed energy and firepower as Moses Shumah matched the opposition striker scoring his second of the game to bring Power level.
Just as everyone thought they had obviously seen enough goals, Moses Shumah had other ideas as he leaped highest to fire home a header past Philip Sakauta to give himself a hattrick and Power the lead.
Coach Mutapa, made further changes withdrawing the hattrick hero Shumah in the 86th minute as he was relaxed by Brian Masanyinga. Other substations of the match saw Ayodeji replaced by fellow Nigerian Ogbonda in the 71st minute.
Dynamos have now opened a five-point lead at the summit of the MTN Zambian Premier League table.
