A few days after leaving Al Duhail SC, Kenya striker Michael Olunga has landed a new home after signing for Al Arabi SC in the Qatar Stars League.

The towering Harambee Stars captain has penned a two-year contract according to a statement on the club’s official social media pages which said: “Al Arabi Sports Club is pleased to announce the signing of Kenyan striker Michael Olunga on a two-year contract. Welcome to the people’s club.”

Olunga enjoyed a remarkable four-and-a-half-year spell that saw him become the Al Duhail’s all-time top scorer with 130 goals. This was after he had enjoyed a great campaign with Kashiwa Reysol in Japan, where he finished as the top scorer in the 2020 Japanese J1 League with 28 goals, winning the Golden Boot and the J-League 2020 MVP to become the first African player to win the honour.

He made his debut for Duhail in a 3-1 away loss against Al Sadd but he scored a hat-trick in Duhail’s 6-0 win against Al Ahli in the Emir of Qatar Cup.

Olunga’s new club Al-Arabi had their first major success in 1978, winning the Emir of Qatar Cup, followed by various titles during the 1980s and 1990s. The club enjoyed their greatest period of success in those two decades, winning 17 major trophies.
