FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC suffered their second defeat of the season after going down 1-0 against Shabana FC at Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday.
Going into the game, the law enforcers were in a run of three straight wins since losing 2-0 against former champions and record league holders Gor Mahia on November 9.
After the defeat, Police recovered to edge out Tusker 2-1, and then followed it up with two wins – 1-0 against Mathare United, and 3-2 against Bidco United in a five goal-thriller.
The defeat against Shabana halted Police’s efforts to keep pace with the early pace setters at the summit of the 1-team Premier League table. The only goal of the game came in the 28th minute when Gilbert Abala finished off a cross from Austine Odongo past the stranded goalkeeper Job Ochieng.
After the first half which Shabana dominated, Police came back a strong side in the second period, and almost levelled matters in the 54th minute. A sweeping move from Marvin Nabwire found Mosengo Tansele, who instead of hitting the ball into the net, he took his time, and was dispossessed while in the process.
In the 74th minute, another great opportunity fell to Police when Nabwire swung in across, but David Okoth hit his effort directly at the hands of the Shabana custodian.
The defeat left Police lying third on the log with 17 points, one less than second-placed Kakamega Homeboyz, who blew away a chance to dislodge Gor Mahia at the top following their 1-1 draw against KCB at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.
Elsewhere, Kariobangi Sharks and Murang’a Seal battled to a 0-0 draw at St. Sebastian Park in Muranga.
