Kenya national team Harambee Stars prospect Sammy Henia-Kamau has signed for English Championship outfit Hull City on a one-year contract.
The 19-year-old center forward will feature for the club’s U21 team this season after securing a move to the championship side.
A statement from the club confirmed: “Hull City are delighted to announce the signing of exciting winger Sammy Henia-Kamau following a successful trial” period. The 19-year-old has penned a one-year contract, with the club holding the option of an extra year, and will link up with the Under-21s squad.”
Speaking after penning the deal, he said: “I am so happy to get it over the line fairly quickly. I have enjoyed every minute of training so far. I am already settled here and I just can’t wait to get going with the boys,” said Henia-Kamau.
“All the lads were really good with me on trial and made me feel welcome. Conor is a really good manager. He interacts with the players a lot, which is good. If you have a question, he is easy to go and talk to.
“When I came at the back end of the last season, there were quite a few players breaking in with the first team and quite a few were out on loan as well, so there are good first team opportunities here.
“I just want to kick on, play as many games as possible, get as many goals, get as many assists as possible and just keep improving as a player.”
Henia-Kamau began his footballing career at Jersey Bulls FC, and quickly became a regular goalscorer. Netting 20 goals in 15 games for their Under-16s and six goals for their Under-18s, the 19-year-old became the youngest player for the club to net a hat-trick for their first team.
His form not only saw him win the annual Sid Guy Award for the most outstanding player at the Jersey FA’s Centre of Excellence in June 2022, but it also earned him a scholarship at Swansea City in July 2023.
Last season, the forward was a regular for the Swans’ Under-21 side, featuring in the Professional Development League, Premier League Cup and Welsh League Cup before featuring twice for the Tigers’ Under-21 side as an unnamed trialist in the final two games of the season against Cardiff and Millwall.
