Premier League outfit Everton have confirmed Kenyan prospect Tyler Onyango has re-joined League One side Stockport County on loan for the 2025-26 season.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Everton Academy aged eight, returns to Stockport, where he spent last term before his loan spell with the eventual play-off semi-finalists was cut short due to injury.v
Onyango made five substitute appearances for Everton’s Senior Team after being handed his debut in a FA Cup fourth round win over Sheffield Wednesday in January 2021. The Everton U21s regular has previously had loan stints with League One clubs Burton Albion and Forest Green Rovers in 2022-23.
In a recent interview, Kenya national team coach Benni McCarthy confirmed he had approached Onyango to play for Kenya ahead of the 2024 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Seychelles.
“Tyler Onyango is a player also that we reached out, we reached out to Everton to get us some information and if the player would be willing to come and play for Kenya,” said the South African legend.
“They spoke to his parents and they showed their desire for him to play for Kenya. But I think it was the timing and the time that we had wasn’t on our side. You have to make the tough decisions and those are the reasons why you see the players that are here.”
Onyango was born in England to a Kenyan father and English mother. This makes him eligible to play for either Kenya or England national teams. He is a youth international for England at under-17 level.
