Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo has commented on what scoring his first goal for the Betway Premiership giants of South Africa means to his career and family.
The 27-year-old’s father Patrick Mayo established himself as a top striker for Chiefs and South Africa football team some two decades ago.
Now Khanyisa Mayo is following the footsteps of his legendary father. The son opened his Chiefs’ scoring account on Wednesday during a Betway Premiership match against Marumo Gallants FC. The game ended 1-1.

The blonde-haired attacker put AmaKhosi ahead with a 39th minute strike before Gallants equalized through Jaisen Clifford with 15 minutes remaining on the clock at FNB Stadium.
Despite that the Soweto giants dropped points, for Khanyisa Mayo scoring was a matter of personal pride.
He told Chiefs website that he was excited to follow the path of his father who used to score for fun.
“Living up to my father’s legacy, filling his shoes was very special. It’s not easy growing up under the pressure (of having a famous footballing father), but I take it as it comes. We are all people in our own right and we all have to work hard to be successful,” he said.
“This was only my first game and I believe I have more room to improve as I familiarise myself with my new environment and adapt to the structures, but I’d say I have already settled in to some extent because South Africa is always home and I am playing for the biggest club in the country, so it’s going well so far and I’ll keep focused on the job at hand, which is to win football matches.”
The former Cape Town City player signed for AmaKhosi weeks ago after completing a year-long loan transfer from Algerian side CR Belouizdad.
