Legendary Moroccan goal scorer Abderrazak Hamdallah put Al Shabab ahead inside fifteen minutes but the reigning Saudi Pro League champions responded with fury.
Doumbia, the promising Mali international midfielder, led the charge with a beautiful strike from distance to level the match five minutes later. The high-priced acquisition from Royal Antwerp fired in his first goal since his blockbuster move to the Saudi giants to halt Shabab’s momentum.
From that point on, it was the Karim Benzema show. The former Real Madrid striker put Ittihad ahead in the 30th minute and added two late goals for a hat-trick to send his club through to the final four, allowing the Jeddah club to join local rivals Al Ahli as well as Al Hilal and Al Kholood.
21-year-old Doumbia now has a goal and two assists for Ittihad since arriving at the end of August. The graduate of the JMG Academy in Bamako made his debut for the Mali senior national team in July, playing over sixty minutes in a friendly against DR Congo.
Saudi football will take a break for about a month, after which Ittihad will return to action on December 20 with a Pro League clash at Al Hazem. It has been a disappointing league campaign for the reigning champions, who sit 7th on the table with fourteen points from nine matches.
