Zambia forward Kingstone Mutandwa, 22, has left Italian side Cagliari Calcio on a season-long loan deal with Austrian side SV Ried 1912.
“SV Oberbank Ried has signed Kingstone Mutandwa, a center forward who most recently played for Cagliari Calcio in the Italian Serie A. The 22-year-old Zambian international has signed a loan contract for this season with an option to buy,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“Kingstone Mutandwa is the type of striker we were looking for for our attacking line. He is a fast and physical striker who has already gained experience at the top level in Serie A. He came across as very ambitious in our discussions and wants to leave his mark in Ried,” said Wolfgang Fiala, Sporting Director at Ried.
On his part, Mutandwa said: “Ried presented me with a project that really excited me. After speaking with the sporting management and learning about the club's ambitions, I knew this was the right place to develop both as a player and personally.
“I want to give my best in every game, earn my place in the squad, and help the team succeed this season. I'm here to work hard, get stronger, and have a positive influence on and off the pitch.”
“I've been following Austrian football for a while. It's intense, with a lot of tactical discipline. I've also heard a lot of good things about the fan culture and the passion of the fans here, which motivates me a lot," said the Zambian.
Mutandwa previously played for Zambian side Atletico Lusaka, where he was regarded as one of the club's most important players. He made his debut for the Zambia national team on June 11, 2024 in a World Cup qualifier against Tanzania at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium after coming as a substitute for Evans Kangwa in the 87th minute.
