The Warriors striker emerged as the latest surprise signing for the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League newcomers. He was unveiled on Monday during halftime of Scottland’s game against Yadah FC at Rufaro Stadium.
The former Kaizer Chiefs’ star has returned home following his exit from Saudi Arabian Pro-League side Al-Okhdood. Musona has effectively united with his younger brother Walter who is Scottland’s skipper in one of the biggest coups for the rookies.
What Musona told the media in Zimbabwe
Speaking during his unveiling on Monday in Harare, the former TSG Hoffenheim attacker hinted that he had returned home to finish the remaining few years of his career.
“I don’t have much to say. I want to thank Scottland for this opportunity to come back home and finish my last years, enjoying football. I can’t wait to start playing with this team on my home ground.”
The former PSL star has always been synonymous with scoring goals, but he felt short of guaranteeing the same at Scottland.
“Yeah, in football you cannot predict by only speaking but also the action speaks more. I will do my best. I am here to help the team to win games, to score and assist. I am not sure if I will score in my first game but I will make sure that this team wins as many games as possible,” he added.
Joining star-studded Scottland’s squad
Musona will be wearing jersey number eight for the big spending rookies who boast big-name players, including ex-Orlando Pirates centre-forward Terrence Dzvukamanja, Khama Billiat and Malawian forward Khuda Muyaba.
In a brief statement, Scottland said: “Warriors legend, Knowledge Musona will end his playing career at Scottland FC after signing a deal with us. Scottland FC becomes Musona’s first professional club on the domestic scene.”
Musona, who recently came out of retirement from the Zimbabwe national team, is now set to have a taste of professional football in Zimbabwe for the first time. He had never played professional football in his homeland as he signed for Kaizer Chiefs from Aces Youth SA in 2009.
Musona went on to turn into a big hit for Amakhosi, playing for them for two trophy-laden seasons that paved the way for his first move to Europe with TSG Hoffenheim in Germany’s Bundesliga in 2011. Two seasons later, this was followed by a second spell on loand with Chiefs in the Betway Premiership before he returned to Europe.
The forward, also called the Smiling Assassin, played in Belgium for clubs such as RSC Anderlecht until 2023 when the petrol-dollars of Saudi Arabia proved irresistible for a four-year spell at Al-Tai, Al-Riyadh and Al-Okhdood.
