Christian Kofane was given another start on Saturday and helped Bayer Leverkusen pull away for a 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Union Berlin.

Similarly to his goal against PSV in the UEFA Champions League earlier this week, the Cameroonian pounced on sloppy play from the opposition defense to score his first top flight goal in Germany. Union Berlin goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow was left with egg on his face after pressure from the forward led to his interception and a simple finish to double the advantage for the hosts.

Ernest Poku put Die Schwarzroten into the lead soon after the half hour mark. The 2023-24 champions now have eleven points from six matches, good enough for 4th place on the table. Bayern Munich continue to dominate with a perfect start, collecting eighteen points from their six fixtures so far this season.

A rising name in European club football at the ripe age of nineteen, the Douala-born talent is continuing to show signs of steady progress. After being limited to mostly substitute appearances and one start earlier in the campaign against Werder Bremen, the acquisition from Albacete has been given the nod in the starting XI from coach Kasper Hjulmand for the last two matches with goals in each game.

The talented striker has not received a call to the Cameroon senior national team for important 2026 World Cup qualifying matches but that may be a good thing at this point as he focuses on further establishing himself for his club. He will be in contention for another start when Leverkusen and the Bundesliga return to action on October 18 against Mainz following the FIFA window.
