Kofi Adams: “Ghana’s partnership with Serbia is good for football development”

Ghana’s Sports and Recreation Minister, Honourable Kofi Adams has spoken highly of the partnership between the West African nation and Serbia in the area of football cooperation.

The two iconic sports nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding [MOU], in Accra in a bid to deepen ties that will help the course of football development.

Ghana and Serbia have long had some form of relationship with Serb native, Milovan Rajevac handling the senior national team, the Black Stars in two spells – between 2008-2010 and 2021-2022. He led the four-time African champions to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where Ghana lost via penalty shootouts to Uruguay in the quarterfinals.

Kofi Adams spoke exclusively to Radio Gold on the sidelines of signing the Memorandum of Understanding [MOU] in Accra.

“You have just cited a few of our players who have been to Serbia and the fact that we got a very good coach at a certain time from Serbia.

“So, what the MOU is now to even cement that relationship and increase it so it becomes even easier for us now to exchange such technical arrangements and also opportunities for our talents to go to Serbia to also practice there,” Kofi Adams told Radio Gold.

“So an MOU like this will open doors for opportunities both for us and the Serbians to equally come here and train anytime they feel like.” He added.

Serbia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Đurić shared insights into the MOU and how beneficial it will be for both countries.

“Ghana and Serbia are both extraordinary sports nations and our sportsmen are known beyond our borders so I believe that when we combine our capacities, our facilities, our training centres, our coaches, our decade long experience, we can accomplish much more.

“Ghanaian players have contributed to our soccer leagues already and knowing that at least there was one prominent coach, coach Milovan [Rajevac], who has contributed to soccer here [in Ghana].

“I believe that with this MOU signed between the Sports Minister and myself, we will turn a new page in football cooperation.” Marko Duric told Radio Gold.
