Al Ahly’s head coach, Marcel Koller, has set his sights on securing the CAF Champions League trophy this season. Speaking during a press conference at Cairo International Stadium, Koller addressed the team's preparations for their group stage opener against Stade d’Abidjan.
“The coaching staff has thoroughly studied the opponent and understands their strengths. They have talented players and a strong desire to challenge the reigning champions,” Koller said, as reported by the club's official website, alahlyegypt.com.
Koller confirmed that Al Ahly will be without star player Wissam Abou Ali due to injury. “Wissam is a key player who has delivered outstanding performances. Unfortunately, injuries are affecting several players, but we are working hard to prepare alternatives during training sessions. Every player must make the most of these opportunities,” he added.
The coach also reassured fans that all players would have chances to prove themselves during a demanding season of over 70 matches. “Opportunities are open to everyone,” he said.
Highlighting the club’s winning mentality, Koller stated: “At Al Ahly, the fans demand the second trophy even before we’ve secured the first. Every championship becomes part of history, and we never tire of winning despite the relentless pressure.”
He also emphasized his respect for Stade d’Abidjan, explaining that his focus is not on their past but on their current form. “Each match has its own challenges and preparation. We continuously correct mistakes, enhance physical and tactical aspects, and count on the unwavering support of our fans.”
The group stage match is scheduled for Tuesday at 6:00 PM Cairo time at Cairo International Stadium.
