Al Ahly’s head coach, Marcel Koller, expressed his pleasure with the team’s 4-2 victory over Stade d’Abidjan in their opening match of the CAF Champions League group stage, which took place tonight at Cairo International Stadium. Reflecting on the match in the post-game press conference, Koller noted: “We deserved the win today, despite the challenges we faced. We started the match well, taking a 3-0 lead in the first half, but our focus began to wane. At halftime, we spoke to the players and urged them to be precise and focused. In the second half, we managed to score the fourth goal, but overall, our concentration wasn’t at the required level throughout the match.”
In comments seen on the official website of Al Ahly, Koller also said: “Our goal was to win and secure the three points. Before the match, we instructed the players to handle Stade d’Abidjan’s crosses, which caused problems for our defense today.”
On the attacking side, Koller acknowledged the performance of Mahmoud Kahraba who scored twice: “I hope this performance will serve as a strong motivation for him. I also look forward to Wessam Abou Ali’s swift recovery.”
The coach emphasized his ongoing communication with the players, underscoring that his message is clear: hard work in training is the essential criterion in his decisions for team selection.
