Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League title dreams were kept alive following a thumping victory against Dreams FC on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Prior to the Week 31 encounter, pundits and football followers at large anticipated a tough battle between the two clubs but it was the Porcupine Warriors who ran riot over their opponent.
The record Ghana Premier League holders pinned Dreams into their own half for the first thirty minutes, scoring twice in the first half through Albert Amoah and Kwame Opoku.
The visitors drew one back in the second half before Opoku got his second and substitute, Fernando Bassey notched his first of the season and Kotoko’s fourth on the day
Having finished the game in 4-1 at full time, interim head coach of the club, Karim Zito has now set sight on winning the double this season
“I never knew I was coming to Kotoko. I was just lying down when I had a call and I was asked to come for the technical director job, not coaching,” Zito said after the game.
“Unfortunately, my own boy left so I had to take over till the season ends. So for now, leave me in peace to work and see out the rest of the league and then the knockout [FA Cup Final].
“I prefer [winning] a double, so for the position, it doesn’t matter. What matters now is I’m leading the team and we have to do better.”
Asante Kotoko share 54 points with Heart of Lions and Nations FC who will go top of the table if they beat Legon Cities on Monday May 19. Kotoko are also in the finals of the MTN FA Cup where they will face Division One League side Golden Kicks FC on June 15 at the Legon Sports Stadium.
