Former Kotoko striker Fatawu Safiu eyes Ghana Premier League return

Former Asante Kotoko striker Fatawu Safiu has set sight on returning to play in the Ghana Premier League after spending years in Europe and Asia.

The 31-year-old spent a season with Asante Kotoko before a two-year stint with Trelleborg and one season at Trollhattan, all in the Swedish league.

Safiu, who last played for Iraqi outfit Al Sinaa, was on the verge of returning to Asante Kotoko but the deal fell on the rocks due to medical reasons.

The former Eleven Wonders forward has since returned to training after undergoing a successful surgery and he has his eyes fixed on playing in Ghana’s top flight once again.

“I don’t have a problem [but] for now I am injured, I had a surgery and I’m doing better now so let’s hopefully in the second round if I get any offer that I think is cool, I will love to play. I don’t have a problem playing in the Ghana league,” Safiu told Pan-Africa Football.

“Coach [Karim] Zito is doing a very good job and the players are doing better. It’s not always going to be win win, sometimes you have to fumble, you win, you lose and you draw.

“It’s part of the game and you just have to keep supporting the players and at the end of the season I am sure Kotoko are going to win the league.

Safiu, whose experience includes times with the defunct Liberty Professionals, Eleven Wonders and Inter Allies, has given positive reviews about the current standard of the Ghana Premier League.

“The league is improving and it’s getting better and better and they should keep improving and it’s going to be fine. I think the competition is very high and they should keep it up, I am enjoying them and they should keep it up.
