Krepin Diatta delighted with Senegal display in Peru win

Senegal winger Krépin Diatta was impressed with the performance of the ream after they defeated Peru 2-0 in a friendly fixture at the Stade de France on Saturday.

The Lions of Teranga secured a deserved victory in their first match since winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Morocco, and as part of their World Cup preparations.

Nicolas Jackson and Ismaïla Sarr were the two goalscorers in an evening where Senegal showed little fear against a tough opponent. Making his second start, Ibrahim Mbaye provided an assist.

‘I’m happy with this victory’

“I feel good, thank God. What happened, happened, and I’m happy to be here and to continue on this journey with this team,” Diatta said as quoted by WiwiSport.

“The most important thing is the present, and I’m happy with this victory (…) We’re satisfied, even if there are always things to improve, as always. But we won, and we’re happy, especially in front of such a great Senegalese crowd.”

Diatta also discussed on the fans, who thronged match venue to rally behind the African champions.

“The Senegalese people are everywhere we go to support us, and that’s not easy. That’s what makes us proud to be Senegalese. We truly thank the public,” he said.

‘I will feel like an African champion for life’

Diatta further gave his opinion on the decision by the CAF Appeals Jury to declare Morocco the winner of the 2025 AFCON by default at the expense of Senegal, but also on the battle that is expected at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“This decision may be surprising, but the most important thing is that we have leaders who are taking care of it,” he explained.

“We did what was necessary for a month, and the whole world saw that we won this trophy with dignity. Whatever happens, I will feel like an African champion for life, and my teammates feel the same way.

“Now the final decision rests with the CAS, and we will let them handle it.”

Senegal will now face Gambia in their second friendly of the current FIFA international break.
