Zambia women’s national team forward Racheal Kundananji has called on her Copper Queens teammates to quickly shift focus to the next stage of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) following their qualification to the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Kundananji’s early strike at Stade El Bachir, Mohammédia proved decisive for the Copper Queens as they edged out DR Congo 1-0 to finish second in Group A behind hosts Morocco, and will now meet the winners of Group B in the last eight.
After a good start to the decisive clash, Zambia went ahead as early as the ninth minute when Kundananji stepped up and curled a low free kick beyond the outstretched arms of Ruth Khonde.
Speaking after the game, Kundananji, who plays for National Women’s Soccer League club Bay FC, and was voted Woman of the match for her display, said: “A tough game it was, definitely the results we hoped for. We now shift our focus to the next assignment. Keep the support coming, we are so grateful.”
Zambia finished with seven points, the same as Morocco, who defeated Senegal 1-0 in their final group fixture at Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
