Ghana Football Association president, Kurt Okraku has expressed surprise over his appointment as the second Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football.

The decision to name Okraku into that position was taken in Accra on Saturday, April 26 when CAF boss, Dr. Patrice Motsepe visited Ghana for the 2025 CAF U-15 Schools Football Championship held at the Legon Sports Stadium.

The 54-year-old was elected onto the CAF Executive Committee unopposed in March and the rise to his current position is a huge feather in his and Ghana’s cap.

Kurt Okraku said: "I asked myself what the 54 Member Associations saw in me to give me this opportunity, that makes me even more humbled than before," Kurt told Asempa FM.

"I’m surprised [to be appointed 2nd Vice President of CAF] but this is an opportunity I’ve embraced with my whole hands, an opportunity I will not let it go. I will do my utmost best in our desire to make football truly African and truly global.

"My hope is to serve the GFA. I stepped down from my position as WAFU B President so I can concentrate more on Ghana and CAF," he told Asempa FM. "My intention is to serve and fully utilise the opportunity that I’ve been given. I don’t think about tomorrow."

"I think the potential is massive. There has been a complete reorganisation of our international competitions (AFCON especially), increased investments by CAF and an enhanced club licensing regime by CAF.

"I think the potential to grow the African game is limitless. That’s why we need to support Dr. Motsepe to finish what he has started."

In order to have a full concentration on the demanding affairs of the Ghana Football Association and CAF, Kurt abdicated his role as President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.
