Kusiima edges closer to golden glove glory with record fifteen clean sheets

Kitara FC goalkeeper Chrispus Kusiima is on the brink of officially clinching the 2024/25 Uganda Premier League (UPL) Golden Gloves after keeping his 15th clean sheet of the season with four games still left to play.

Kusiima reached the milestone last Wednesday as Kitara held relegation-fighting Wakiso Giants to a goalless draw on matchday 26. It was yet another composed and commanding display from the Royals’ shot-stopper, who has now kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the league this season.

His stellar run places him ahead of KCCA’s Mutwalibi Mugolofa, BUL’s Joel Mutakubwa, and Vipers SC’s Alfred Mudekereza all tied on 11 clean sheets. NEC’s Hannington Ssebwalunyo follows closely with 10, while Simon Tamale (Maroons) has 9 and UPDF’s Richard Anyama has managed 8. Edward Kasibante (Police), Abdul Kimera (Express), and James Alitho (Wakiso Giants) all have six.

Barring an extraordinary run from his closest challengers who must keep clean sheets in all their remaining matches to catch up, Kusiima appears poised to secure the Golden Glove. If he keeps just one more clean sheet, he will seal the accolade outright with a record 16 shutouts.

Kitara still has three league games to play: home ties against Maroons and Vipers and a trip to Mbale Heroes. As it stands, only Mugolofa, Mutakubwa, and Mudekereza have a mathematical chance of matching him, but even then, they must remain unbeaten and ever-present in goal.

Kusiima’s contributions have been vital in propelling Kitara to sixth on the 16-team table. The Royals have collected 38 points from now 27matches — winning 10, drawing 8, and losing 9 with their keeper’s consistency between the posts being a key pillar in that performance.
