The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has sanctioned Kwara United for multiple breaches of the league’s Framework and Rules during their rescheduled Matchday 22 fixture against Rivers United, which ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday.

The match, held at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin, was marred by a significant security failure that allowed unauthorised individuals to access restricted areas.

During the encounter, home supporters reportedly brought the game into disrepute through unsporting conduct, trespassing, and physical assaults on both match officials and Rivers United personnel, resulting in bodily harm.

The NPFL has imposed a heavy financial penalty on the Ilorin-based club, totalling ₦10 million in fines and compensation:

₦1,000,000: Holding match officials and visiting staff hostage for several hours after the final whistle.

₦2,000,000: Compensatory payment for medical treatments and damages incurred by the victims.

Compliance and Appeals
