Nigeria Premier League football (NPFL) side Kwara United have lifted their first ever President Federation Cup trophy following a thrilling penalty shootout against Nigerian National League (NNL) side Abakaliki FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos on Saturday.
Harmony Boys, who entered the final as favorites, were unable to break the deadlock in the opening ninety minutes against the second tier Nigeria National League side who have been tagged the giant killers of the competition.
Stuck goalless at full time, coach Tunde Sanni’s boys went into the dreadful penalty shootout and emerged 5-3 victors.
The victory means that Kwara United have secured a slot to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup alongside the third place finishers in the NPFL, Abia Warriors.
