Pape Gueye struck in Villarreal CF’s heavy 1-4 La Liga defeat to leaders FC Barcelona in their Round 26 encounter at Camp Nou. The third-placed team had high hopes for the tie, but Barcelona were too strong and decisive.
Gueye pulled one back after the restart, as Lamine Yamal had handed Barcelona a 2–0 lead in the first half. The Senegalese midfielder struck from close range following the home side’s poor corner clearance in the 52nd minute. Yamal completed his hat-trick in the second half before Robert Lewandowski put the game to bed in stoppage time.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion has now scored in back-to-back La Liga games, having also struck against Valencia in Week 25.
