Goal scoring is the biggest assert of every potent striker, however, there looks to be a lack of such prolific goal poachers especially in Africa.

Goal scoring strikers cast in the mold of Nigeria’s Rashidi Yekini, Ghana’s Asamoah Gyan and Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, seems to be in shortage lately.

That absence or the lack of top finishers has been echoed by former Flying Eagles coach, Paul Aigbogun who has shed light on the global decline in prolific goal scorers.

The former Enyimba International trainer attributes the issue to a lack of proper football development at a young age across the globe and not only in Nigeria.

“Not only Nigerian players, but if you look at Africa or around the world, there is actually a lack of goal scorers compared to many years before,” Aigbogun remarked. “If we look at Nigeria in particular, it is down to football development at a young age.

“When you don’t learn it as a young player, it becomes harder at an older age,” he added.

Aigbogun has previously coached Nigeria U-20 between 2018 and 2020 after two spells with Warri Wolves. His other coaching jobs include a short spell in Gibraltar side, Glacis United and defunct Danish club, Jammerbugt.
