Anthony Laffor, a key figure in Mamelodi Sundowns' 2016 CAF Champions League triumph, has made a bold claim, that only former coach Pitso Mosimane can secure the coveted continental trophy for the Tshwane giants next season.

Laffor, who scored important goals in the 2016 campaign, including one in the final against Zamalek, believes Mosimane's return is the missing piece for Sundowns to reclaim Champions League glory.

"Coach Pitso Mosimane, only if you could get a chance to take over our beloved club Sundowns, next season Champions League is sure. Let us put football politics aside," Laffor declared on his official Instagram account.

"It’s about that time Pitso Mosimane comes back home. Only he knows how to coach Sundowns. I've been there, I know exactly what I’m talking about."

Since their maiden Champions League win in 2016, Sundowns have struggled to reach the final for nearly a decade, despite various coaching changes.

Under Miguel Cardoso this season, Sundowns finally broke their final drought, though they ultimately fell short against Egyptian side Pyramids FC.

After leaving Sundowns in 2020, Mosimane continued his impressive continental run. He led Al Ahly to two CAF Champions League titles, a league title, an Egyptian Cup, and two CAF Super Cups.

His journey then took him to Saudi Arabia, where he secured automatic promotion for Al Ahli to the top-flight league. More recently, Mosimane has also managed Al-Wahda (UAE), Abha Club (Saudi), and Esteghlal FC (Iran).
