Marumo Gallants’ new coach Alexandre Lafitte has explained the football brand to be expected under his reign with the South African top-flight league team.
The 28-year-old was finally unveiled to the media on Monday, July 7 2025 when he promised to steer the Bloemfontein-based side to greater heights.
The Frenchman succeeded Abdeslam Ouaddou who left for Orlando Pirates. The UEFA A-Licence holder comes with a sound resume having steered Ivorian side State d’Abidjan to their first league title in 56 years.
Addressing the press, the bearded trainer promised his own attacking playing philosophy.
“My football is very offensive. I like to propose beautiful football for the fans. I like to control the opponent when you have the ball and to give important energy when you lose the ball. It is a good opportunity for me because this is the best championship in Africa. I want to try to help the new challenge,” the coach said.
Lafitte said he analysed Gallants’ performance last season under Ouaddou and he thinks there is a need to change the playing style.
“We analysed the last 10 games of last season for Marumo. It is an opportunity to continue but it is not the same football because I like to propose offensive football but it is very important to build a team with a very strong mindset,” Lafitte added.
Gallants have since unveiled the latest signings—Darrel Matsheke, Teboho Motloung, Bongolwethu Siyase, Abram Tjahikika, Simo Luthuli, Shaun Morgan, Jaisen Clifford, Kamohelo Sithole, Karabo Khoza and Bheki Mabuza.
The club’s management has since promised more arrivals to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2025-2026 Betway Premiership.
