In reaction, the 25-year-old was a model of humility. He gave credit to the entire Lecce squad.
“I am grateful for this award. It is a result of team-work and hard work. It is a good feeling, but the most important thing is the win. Forzalence,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
Banda found the back of the net with a stunning freekick taken from the left side of the pitch, beating Udinese’s Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye in the 90th minute.
The victory saw Lecce maintain their place outside the Italian top flight’s relegation with the result, three points clear of Fiorentina in 17th position.
The hosts got off to an excellent start and controlled most of the match. Omri Gandelman put them ahead inside the opening ten minutes to capitalize. However, there was a serious possibility that Udinese might snatch a point courtesy of Oumar Solet’s 26th minute penalty kick response.
The Chipolopolo Banda winger came on in the 68th minute after a month of difficulty that saw him make little impact for his club since scoring in a 1-1 draw at Juventus on January 3.
And his third goal of the season could be crucial for a Lecce team that is constantly fighting against the tide to retain their top flight status.
Introduced in the 68th minute, Lameck Banda made an immediate impact in a match that appeared to be drifting towards a draw. With the score locked at 1-1 deep into stoppage time, the Zambian winger stepped up to take a free-kick from the left side of the pitch.
Banda struck the ball with precision and confidence, curling it past Udinese’s Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye in the 90th minute to spark wild celebrations among the home fans. The goal proved decisive, sealing a vital victory for Lecce and earning Banda the Man of the Match award.
Despite his heroic contribution, Banda was quick to deflect individual praise and highlight the collective effort of the team.
“I am grateful for this award. It is a result of teamwork and hard work,” Banda wrote on his official Facebook page.
“It is a good feeling, but the most important thing is the win. Forza Lecce.”
His response reflected the maturity and team-first mentality that has made him a respected figure both at club level and within the Zambia national team setup.
The match itself was evenly contested, with Lecce enjoying strong spells of possession, particularly in the opening stages. The hosts made a positive start and were rewarded inside the first ten minutes when Omri Gandelman opened the scoring.
However, Udinese responded well and restored parity in the 26th minute through Oumar Solet, who calmly converted from the penalty spot.
As the match wore on, both sides pushed for a winner, but it was Banda’s moment of brilliance late on that ultimately separated the teams. His expertly taken free-kick showcased his technical quality and ability to deliver under pressure.
