Lamine Camara: Midfielder earns massive plaudits from Monaco boss

Senegal midfielder Mamadou Lamine Camara has earned the praise of Monaco head coach Sébastien Pocognoli following his impressive performance in the Ligue 1 outing against Paris Saint-Germain.

Lamine Camara was named MVP of the match against PSG after AS Monaco’s 3-1 victory at the Parc des Princes last Friday.

With 13 ball recoveries, a near miss in scoring the goal of the season, and a dominant performance in midfield, the Senegalese midfielder made a lasting impression.

Sébastien Pocognoli was full of praise for the African champion.

Lamine Camara won 2025 AFCON with Senegal

“Lamine is having a very good season. He trains very well, and it shows in the weekend matches,” he said.

“He’s an ambitious, focused, and very professional player with enormous potential and still a lot of room for improvement, both defensively and offensively. He has all the qualities to become a very important player for the future of the Club.”

The African champion also had 72 touches, the most of any Monaco player, completed six passes in the final third, delivered four crosses, and drew five fouls.

This outstanding performance earned him his second MVP award this season, with 76% of the votes ahead of Maghnes Akliouche and Balo.

Camara previously played for Metz

Mamadou Lamine Camara played seven matches as Senegal romped to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations glory after beating hosts Morocco 1-0 in the finals at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in January.

The 22-year-old who has made 16 appearances for Monaco, has 23 caps for the Teranga Lions with six goals scored so far.

He has been linked with a number of English Premier League clubs like Newcastle United, Manchester United and Sunderland with a move in the summer transfer window imminent.

He previously played for Metz after developing his career in Senegal with Casa Sports and Generation Foot.
