Zambia international Patson Daka has sent an emotional message to Leicester City fans following the team’s relegation from the Premier League to the EFL Championship.

The Foxes’ relegation was confirmed on Sunday following their 1-0 defeat against title chasing Liverpool at Anfield. Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side were finally put out of their misery, falling back down to the Championship just one season after they had earned promotion as champions.

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold dealt the blow that sent the Foxes down, scoring in the 76th minute of the game. Leicester still have five games to make their points tally a little more respectable having picked up just 18 from their 33 so far.

“It’s difficult to express how to feel right now but I wanted to take a moment to thank the fans for your support this season, even when we didn’t deserve it,” Daka wrote on his social media pages. “We didn’t show enough, but we will work together and do our best to bring this club back to where it belongs.”

So far this season, Daka managed 20 Premier League appearances for Leicester scoring only one goal and did not provide any assist. He joined Leicester on a five-year contract on June 2021, from Red Bull Salzburg.
