Leicester City forward Jordan Ayew has called on his teammates to make better decisions as a team following their 3-1 Premier League defeat against Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday.
The Ghanaian’s 50th goal in English club football gave the Foxes the lead at a foggy Anfield, before Cody Gakpo's curling effort drew the hosts back level on the brink of half-time.
Minutes from the restart, Curtis Jones turned in an Alexis Mac Allister cross before the Premier League's top scorer Mohamed Salah made sure of the Liverpool win inside the final 10 minutes.
Speaking after the fixture, Ayew believes the Foxes played very well in the first half but dropped their game in the second period allowing Liverpool back into the game.
“First half we did very well but just unlucky we conceded before half-time, just key moments but I think we fought well, we defended very well, everyone gave is all we just need to continue like this, same character, same fighting spirit and we will be fine in next matches,” said Ayew.
“It was difficult to concede in the first half, we need to adjust better, we started the second half not well because they were on top of us, we need to make better decisions as a team, but all in all I am proud of the boys, the fighting spirit, the character and if we keep on like this we will find better results.”
On his goal, Ayew said: “It was a good feeling to score, especially at Anfield it doesn’t happen every time but we know the most important thing was to help the team and we tried our best and it wasn’t meant to be, we should come out of this game with our heads held high because we showed good faces of ourselves and we just continue like these, stay positive.”
Ayew is, however, positive that Leicester will have a great season despite the setback at Anfield. “The season is not going to be a roller coaster, we know that, and the fans were good today and we know we need them to back us especially at this moment we need them more than ever, we will give out all and we see where we will be,” explained Ayew.
“We will have a lot of matches to play, the season is not over yet, I think 21 matches is a lot of points we need to focus and pick from those matches, we need to stay focused, work hard and keep pushing and hopefully at the end everyone will be smiling.”
The Foxes attention must quickly turn to Sunday, when they return home to King Power Stadium for the visit of seventh-placed Manchester City.
