Lesotho beef up attack ahead of Malawi clash

Lesotho coach Leslie Notsi has summoned striker Teboho Letsema to reinforce the team’s attack for Tuesday’s second meeting with Malawi in South Africa.

The rematch involving the Southern African opponents will take place at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, the very same venue that hosted the first friendly which ended 0-0 on Saturday.

The initial friendly resulted in some players picking knocks for Lesotho notably Motebang Sera and Keketso Snyders who limped off the pitch.

With the duo’s availability not guaranteed on Tuesday, Notsi has added the Linare FC forward Letsema to the Likuena squad to reinforce their front line while doctors observe Sera and Snyders’ progress.

The Lesotho Football Association confirmed that the 23-year-old Linare forward joined camp ahead of the double header.

Meanwhile, Sera and Mkwanazi will undergo a late fitness test to determine their availability for the fixture on Tuesday afternoon while Snyders has been ruled out of the match.

Injury update from Malawi camp

Meanwhile, the Flames coach Kalisto Pasuwa has given a worrying update on his squad’s health, citing injuries and withdrawals due to club commitments.

The hardest hit department for the Flames is the defence with Charles Petro, Emmanuel Nyirenda and Nickson Nyasulu ruled out due to injuries ranging from groin, muscle to knee issues.

Lesotho and Malawi coach are using the friendlies to right the wrongs they observed in the recent FIFA World Cup qualifiers while looking forward to improved performances in the forthcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches.

Likuena go into the match boasting a superior head-to-head record over Malawi who have failed to beat their opponents since 2009.
