Al Ahly Benghazi booked their place in the Libyan Cup final after defeating Al Akhdar 3-1 on penalties in a thrilling semifinal clash. The match, held at Misrata Stadium, ended 2-2 in regular time before heading to a shootout that saw goalkeeper Murad Al-Wuheeshi emerge as the hero.
Al Akhdar opened the scoring in the 24th minute through Bilel Ben Khalifa, who slotted the ball home from inside the box. Al Ahly Benghazi hit back before halftime, as Hussein Taqtaq leveled the score with a header in the 41st minute.
The momentum shifted after the break when Al Ahly took the lead from the spot, with their Nigerian forward Gabriel Orok converting a penalty in the 50th minute. However, Al Akhdar refused to surrender, equalizing in the 81st minute through Angolan forward Ary Papel, who netted his penalty to make it 2-2.
With both sides unable to find a winner in open play, the match went to penalties. Al Ahly Benghazi triumphed 3-1 after two crucial saves from Murad Al-Wuheeshi, while Al Akhdar missed one of their attempts.
The victory sends Al Ahly Benghazi into the Libyan Cup final, to face Al Ahli Tripoli who beat Al Ittihad in the other semifinal.
