The Libyan football scene has witnessed a surprising development after the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) officially announced that Al Zahra and Wefaq Ajdabiya will remain in the Libyan Premier League for the 2025–26 season.
With this decision, the number of participating clubs in the competition rises from 32 to 34 teams, marking a new change from the initial plan for the new campaign.
According to an official statement, issued by the LFF’s Board of Directors under Resolution No. 155, the move came after a review of both clubs’ legal and administrative files. The federation confirmed that the decision to allow Al Zahra and Wefaq Ajdabiya to stay was based on legal grounds.
The LFF explained that Al Zahra benefited from the review after it was proven that there were legal violations in the registration of several players during last season — irregularities that affected match results and ultimately influenced the club’s league position.
