In an official statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mohamed El-Shazly, the official spokesperson of the ministry, stated that Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, made several phone calls to Egyptian athletes currently present in Libya.
El-Shazly made a phone call today with Hossam El-Badry, the head coach of the Libyan club Al Ahli Tripoli, to check on him and the Egyptian technical staff members. He also checked on player Mahmoud Abdel Monem “Kahraba”, the player of Al Ittihad SC who is also present in Libya, to ensure his safety and the procedures for a return to Cairo in continuous coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all concerned authorities in light of the ongoing developments there.
The city of Tripoli in Libya is currently witnessing security tensions and armed clashes, which has led to the suspension of the Libyan league matches in the western region until further notice.
El-Shazly clarified that some Egyptian athletes were present today in Misrata, while the rest were in the Libyan capital Tripoli. El-Badry, head coach of Al Ahli Tripoli, Hady Khashaba, sports director of the club, Ahmed Ayoub, and Hady El-Saeed were in Misrata while Ahmed Esmat, Kahraba and Ahmed Shafiq were in Tripoli.
It is scheduled that the technical staff currently in Misrata will arrive at Cairo International Airport at 8:00 PM GMT today, Wednesday, while it was decided that the others will head to Misrata in preparation for direct travel to Cairo.
