After the third round of matches on Monday, the picture is becoming clearer in the Eastern group of the Libyan Premier League's Championship Stage, composed mainly of clubs from Benghazi.
Al Hilal Benghazi, who controversially escaped with a point against rivals Al Ahly in the second round, are now the group leaders following a 2-1 victory over Al Tahaddi in the evening match. Azzedine El Maryami's second half header broke the deadlock after Hilal captain Muad Alamami leveled the match just before halftime.
Al Ahly kept pace with their rivals and sit two points back in second place following a 3-1 victory against Al Sadaqa, who are now level with Tahaddi at the bottom of the table. Sudan national team forward John Mano scored inside five minutes for Ahly before Nigerian attacker Gabriel Orok took over.
Orok assisted Zakaria Mansouri for Ahly's second before converting a penalty kick to confirm a 3-1 halftime lead that remained until full time.
And in the early match from the day, there was plenty of drama in Al Akhdar's 2-1 victory over defending champions Al Nasr. Akhdar star Ary Papel was sent off after an incident where the Angolan was kicked by Mahmoud Akasha who was also expelled early in the second half.
However, a first half goal from Sunday Akinbule before the second half incident gave Akhdar the edge and Mohammed Jadullah put them beyond reach with his late goal.
Next up on Tuesday, the Western group takes center stage in Tripoli with Al-Ittihad and Al Ahli Tripoli set for an intriguing showdown to highlight the day's action.
