With instability disrupting the Western-based group in the Libyan Premier League, the Eastern group in Benghazi is continuing on and Al Ahly Benghazi increased their lead at the top on Wednesday with a 2-1 victory over Al Akhdar.

Nigerian forward Gabriel Orok's brilliant free kick provided a late match winner for Ahly who are now five points clear at the top of the group. After an exchange of goals early in the second half, former Enyimba player Orok's set piece magic moved Ahly a step closer to the title and a place in the 2025-26 CAF Champions League.

Algerian midfielder Zakaria Mansouri gave Ahly the lead soon after halftime but Al Akhdar responded through star and captain Ary Papel, with the Angolan winning and then converting a penalty kick to level matters in the 66th minute.

Ahly remain undefeated in the Championship stage, collecting four wins and three draws in their seven matches. With three games remaining, they are the favorites to qualify for the playoff final out of the Eastern group depending on how the instability in the West impacts the league.

The Eastern group continues play on Thursday and Friday with Al Hilal Benghazi facing Al Sadaqa before bottom side Al Tahaddi clashes with defending champions Al Nasr.
