Azam FC coach Rachid Taoussi has revealed how prepared they are to face rivals Young Africans (Yanga SC) in a Mainland Premier League fixture at Azam Complex Stadium on Thursday.

While the Citizens are leading the 16-team league table with 64 points from 24 matches, the Ice Cream Makers are sitting third with 51 points from 25 outings. The fixture is expected to be thrilling with Yanga seeking to earn revenge having lost the first round meeting 1-0.

“This is a big game, big game, against Yanga and my players have been ready for this game, and you know when you play a big team like Yanga, you must be ready, we also have our target to be in the same level as Yanga,” Taoussi told Pan-Africa Football.

“We are also protecting our position and we know it is in our hands, but we have to play good football to win and that is what I am demanding from my players, we have to be good in all areas, we play good football but we need everybody to be effective. The game against Yanga is like war, we are going to war and we must play like soldiers, but one thing I know, my players have good mentality, good fighting spirit, and they need to play this game and we need to win this game.”

Last season, Yanga won the first round meeting 3-2 but Azam recovered to beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture. In the 2022 campaign, after a 2-2 draw in the first round meeting, Azam won the second round 3-2.
