While Tanzania awaits the latest Kariakoo Derby on Sunday, the nation's top division Mainland Premier League resumed on Friday with third placed Azam FC in dominant form.
Azam had an easy time with Prisons FC in a 4-0 thumping at the Azam Complex. Nassor Saadun scored his sixth goal of the campaign to open Azam's account inside five minutes. The Tanzanian international then passed through a sleepy Prisons defense to find the run of Pascal Msindo who finished with ease.
Msindo punished Prisons again before the hour mark with an excellent diving header from right back Lusajo Mwaikenda, who then scored a goal himself ten minutes later from a fortunate deflection.
Azam remain ten points back of league leaders Young Africans but end a streak of three draws. The Dar es Salaam club are engaged in a battle to qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup with Singida Black Stars who won 1-0 at Namungo on Thursday.
Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah continued his excellent form since joining from Libyan football by scoring the winning goal in the second half. The former Medeama star combined with strike partner Elvis Rupia whose return pass was perfect to set up an easy finish to make it 7 goals in 7 games for Sowah in Tanzanian football. Singida Black Stars stay four points back of Azam FC.
Finally, the early match saw Burundi international Elie Mokono score two goals in the final twenty minutes as Fountain Gate surged back to win 2-1 at Kinondoni MC. Fountain Gate lead a large group of teams where only 6 points separate 6th place from 13th position.
