Reigning Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga) did just enough to overtake rivals Simba SC in the Ligi Kuu Bara with Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Coastal Union.

Prince Dube’s second league goal of the campaign arrived at a timely moment in the 88th minute to give the Citizens maximum points. Young Africans move ahead of Simba with the victory and appear on course to emerge as the pace setters when they make up games in hand on the rest of the competition.
Hosts Coastal Union did not make it easy for the champions, doing well to disrupt an attack that has not been operating in top form over the last few matches. However, Zimbabwean striker Dube rose up to nod in a cross from close range to break the resistance of the home side.
Yanga are now only one point back of league leaders JKT Tanzania but they have played five less matches than the leaders. The Dar es Salaam giants are now four points clear of Simba, whose perfect start to the league campaign was upended by Azam FC earlier on Sunday.
The Tanzanian top flight is set for an extended break with fixtures set to resume in late January after the completion of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
