Young Africans (Yanga SC) coach Miloud Hamdi has explained why he was not impressed with his team's performance despite beating Namungo FC 3-0 at KMC Stadium in the Mainland Premier League on Tuesday.

After strong resistance from Namungo, the Citizens finally broke the deadlock in the 28th minute when Stephane Aziz Ki found the back of the net. Zimbabwean forward Prince Dube then doubled their lead in the 31st minute to take a 2-0 lead into half-time.

Yanga started the second period better than the first, but had to wait until the 74th minute for Maxi Mpia Nzengeli to drill home their third after a goalmouth melee.

“I am happy for the three points, but we can do better on the field, we can play better than that. [It was] very difficult and I spoke with the players about that in the meeting. We played our last game some weeks back, so when you restart, it becomes very difficult. But we won, we stay first, that is very important for us,” said Hamdi.

“I want to use all my players, they are contracted to Yanga and it means they have to play for Yanga. I will try my best to make sure that each player in Yanga gets enough time to play.

“But I have to congratulate our opponents, they were not that easy to break down. They gave us a tough game in the opening stages, kudos to them. I always say before any given game that teams playing against Yanga come with force, so we have to be ready to handle the situation,” he added.

Namungo coach Juma Mgunda conceded defeat by saying: “We started very well, we played so well in the first 25 minutes but lack of concentration allowed Yanga to take the lead. And when you allow that against a team with top experience like Yanga, it becomes difficult for you to come back into the game.”

The win kept Yanga at the top of the 16-team league with 73 points, four more than second-placed Simba, who have garnered 69 points.
