Young Africans (Yanga SC) midfielder Khalid Aucho has revealed why he doesn’t like scoring goals despite notching his first of the season in a 5-0 Mainland Premier League win against Mashujaa FC on Sunday.

In the fixture at Lake Tanganyika Stadium, Aucho’s goal came in the 55th minute and this was after Kenya intyernational Duke Abuya and Zimbabwe forward Prince Dube had put Yanga 2-0 up in 33rd and 49th minutes respectively.

Two more goals from substitute and Zambia star Clatous Chama in the 74th and 83rd minutes ensured that Yanga moved five points clear at the top of the league table with 55 points from 21 matches.

“It was important because it was my first goal but I always tell Engineer, the boss, that I am always not good at scoring, I don’t like scoring, I like giving, assisting, and helping the team to win matches,” Aucho told Pan-Africa Football.

On his spectacular volleyed goal to open his goal account this season, Aucho explained how it happened: “It came from a free-kick, and I felt this is the opportunity to get my first goal of the season, I waited for the ball and as soon as it landed on my feet, I only saw it on the net.”

At the end of the game, Yanga players looked happy with all their eyes on Aucho, asked why that happened, the Ugandan captain said: “It is because they always keep telling me, you need to score, you need to score, and I am always there but I don’t like to score.

“I like giving, every time I get an opportunity to score, I like giving, and they (players) know that me I am not someone, who likes to score, I am always someone, who likes to give my teammates to score. But eventually I scored against Mashujaa and they are happy for me, the entire team is very happy, and that is for sure.”

On whom he dedicated the goal to, Aucho responded without blinking an eye: “Maxi Mpia Nzengeli, because he told me before the game, we had a debate, that if I score he will give me money, so he is definitely going to give me the money for that, so I give the goal to him.”

Yanga’s lead at the top could, however, reduce to three points if rivals Simba SC manage to beat Azam FC in a derby at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Monday.
