Simba SC moved to the top of the Ligi Kuu Bara Tanzania table on Wednesday with a dominant 3-0 victory over Namungo FC.
A Mamelodi Sundowns connection provided one of the goals with Neo Maema’s free kick setting up Rushine de Reuck to make it two goals in his last two matches in Simba colors. Set pieces were the theme of the day for the Reds who exercised aerial superiority to take down visiting Namungo at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.
Namungo managed to keep the match scoreless for most of the first half, utilizing defensive tactics that made it difficult for Simba to break them down. However, in the 42nd minute it was set piece defending that proved to be the downfall for the visitors as Chamou Karaboue headed in from Joshua Mutale’s corner kick.
Seleman Mwalimu, the promising Tanzanian forward on loan from Morocco’s Wydad AC, added another goal late on after coming on as a substitute.
In the earlier match from Wednesday, Azam FC conceded late to draw hosts JKT Tanzania 1-1. Feisal Salum’s opener was cancelled out in second half stoppage time by Paul Peter’s header.
Simba join Singida Black Stars as the two teams with perfect records so far this season in Tanzania’s top flight, winning each of their two matches in the early stage of the domestic campaign. The Reds move past rivals Young Africans, who slipped up with a 0-0 draw at Mbeya City Council on Tuesday.
Wednesday’s result gives Simba supporters some joy heading into the international break. After 2026 World Cup qualifying finishes up its group stage from the African region, Simba will look to secure a place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League when they travel for the first leg of their qualifying stage clash against Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs in a little over two weeks.
