Fabrice Ngoma has stated that Simba SC don't need to play well to win matches, with their focus wholly on gaining points in the Mainland Premier League fixtures.
The Msimbazi Reds lacked their usual spark on Monday as they struggled to defeat JKT Tanzania 1-0 at Isamuhyo Stadium. A first-half goal courtesy of Ngoma was all Simba needed to collect maximum points from a difficult away match, keeping them on course to catch leaders and defending champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) at the top of the table.
“It was not an easy game, but the important thing was to collect three points. If we play badly but pick up points, we don’t care. All we need is a win. We will play our matches to the death. We know we only have a few matches to end the season,” said Ngoma after the game.
“For our next game against Pamba Jiji, I want all the fans to come and push the team to win, all we want from our matches is to win. We play badly, we play ugly, we play well, it really doesn’t matter. We only want to win, we want three points. Before we go to Morocco, we want to win every game.”
Ngoma’s sentiments were echoed by Joshua Mutale: “We appreciate the support of the fans, it keeps us going, and we will now focus on Pamba Jiji. We want to get the three points. We had four games, we have already played two and won two, so we have six points. We now need to win the remaining two games before we shift our focus to RS Berkane.”
The win took Simba to 63 points, seven fewer than Yanga, from 24 matches. Following the league matches against Pamba and KMC, Simba will turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup final against Algerian outfit Berkane.
Berkane will host the first leg at Stade Municipal de Berkane on Saturday, May 17, before the return leg at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday, May 25.
