Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has admitted that he was stunned by KMC after they took an early lead in their Mainland Premier League fixture at KMC Stadium on Sunday.
Playing their last game in hand, the Msimbazi Reds found themselves trailing as early as the eighth minute when Rashid Chambo put the home side ahead from their first meaningful attack of the game.
But Simba remained calm and managed to level matters in the 16th minute courtesy of Uganda striker Steven Mukwala, before the same player stepped up to score the winner in the 47th minute, after weaving past KMC defenders to slot home.
"It is exactly what we didn't want to happen (to concede an early goal). But we could see in the warm-up we were slow to the ball and then of course the rain came, which made the ball roll quicker than what we were used to, and then to adapt to that. One goal behind, not closing the winger, cutting inside, it was really a fantastic goal," said Davids.
"Then it was really one of those games where we had to just remain calm, don't panic, it was still early in the game, like the Mashujaa game. Be calm, be clear, keep playing our football and the goals will come in.
"To be fair, we should have been in a two or three-one lead by half-time, but we had to keep calm and in the end we shared the minutes nicely with the four matches, and the most important part is managing to collect 12 points."
The win saw Simba move to within a point of leaders and champions Young Africans (Yanga SC). Simba have 69 points accumulated from 22 wins, three draws and only one defeat.
