Simba SC assistant coach Selemani Matola has revealed the importance of their Mainland Premier League fixture against Mashujaa at the KMC Complex, Kinondoni, on Friday at 4pm (East Africa Time).

Having qualified for the final of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 1-0 aggregate win against Stellenbosch of South Africa, the Msimbazi Reds will shift their focus to the top-flight, seeking to close the gap between them and leaders Young Africans (Yanga SC).

“We are treating this particular match [against Mashujaa] as a final. Despite the quality of our opponents, we have prepared well and believe in our ability to earn all three points,” Matola told the media ahead of the game, as quoted by the Guardian.

His sentiments were echoed by midfielder Awesu Awesu, who said: “The entire squad is highly motivated. We’re treating this with the same intensity as other crucial matches. Our goal is to secure maximum points.”

According to the club’s revised schedule, after playing against Mashujaa, Simba will next play on May 5 vs JKT Tanzania at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, May 8 vs Pamba FC at KMC Complex, and May 11 vs KMC FC.

Simba are currently sitting second on the 16-team league table with 57 points, fewer than champions Yanga, who have played four matches more.
