After taking part in CAF club competitions over the last weekend, Tanzania’s top clubs returned to domestic league action with Simba SC and Young Africans (Yanga) winning in midweek Ligi Kuu Tanzania Bara fixtures.
In the later match from Thursday, Simba took advantage of a first half red card to ease to a 3-0 victory over midtable side Mbeya City. Vitalis Mayanga’s 23rd minute red card saw the hosts take advantage soon after with Elie Mpanzu setting up Morice Abraham for the opener five minutes later.
Jonathan Sowah added another goal to make it 2-0 by halftime and Kenya international Mohamed Bajaber added his first goal for the club late on. The Reds remain perfect through four matches, leaving them on track to take top spot once they make up their games in hand on other clubs.
Young Africans continue to find their feet under recently appointed coach Pedro Goncalves with a 2-0 victory over Fountain Gate in Thursday’s earlier match.
Prince Dube’s first half penalty kick gave the hosts a halftime lead and star playmaker Pacome Zouzoua came off the bench to add his second league goal of the season in the 81st minute. After a successful start to play in the CAF Champions League with four points from their first two matches, the reigning Tanzanian champions remain on pace for a fierce battle with rivals Simba for top spot.

On Wednesday, Tanzania’s two other top clubs battled to a 0-0 draw as Singida Black Stars and Azam FC failed to achieve the victory they were searching for. Both clubs are set to gain ground and move up the table with games in hand, but are behind the pace of the main title contenders with CAF Confederation Cup duty making things more difficult.
The top clubs are free from continental duties until late January but the schedule continues to be busy. All four clubs will be in action this weekend with Simba hosting Azam FC in the headline clash.
